New Zealand D-Photo - - YOUR SHOTS - anshpassi ANSH PASSI

The inspiration for this image arose from having seen many photographers post almost-identical shots from this exact location, as well as a desire to experiment after stumbling across similar composited images on Instagram. “When I visited this spot, I didn’t want to capture a photo that myself or others have already seen numerous times before; I wanted to capture something different, something that would stand out and have that ‘wow’ factor to it,” Ansh explains. So the vision for the final product was there, but the idea of combining two shots into one was dreamed up on the spot, without any previous planning involved. Shooting handheld, Ansh took a first shot from behind the fence, in which the fence was focused and the background was blurred, then captured a second image on the other side of the fence, where the ‘view’ was in focus, with no visual obstructions in the way. “I imported these shots into Lightroom, and then merged them in Photoshop and then exported them as a TIFF file,” Ansh says. “In Photoshop, I used a script to auto-align the images, and then used the polygonal lasso tool to cut out the shape in the fence on the blurred image, so that the ‘in focus’ image would show through.”
