A visual feast held between October 7 and 15, the festival’s vibrant and dynamic programme will see over 1000 artists display work in more than 100 spaces, including galleries, public venues, private residences, pop-ups, and the street. Artistic activations will be taking place in different precincts all over Auckland, including the central city, Newmarket, Ponsonby, Arch Hill, Parnell, K Road, Devonport, and the eastern, western, and southern suburbs. Newcomers and experts alike can immerse themselves in Auckland’s amazingly diverse art world and experience striking and remarkable works. The week will kick off on October 7, with the K Road Street Gallery Tour. Offering attendees a new perspective on the paintings and wall art of K Road, the walking tour will introduce attendees to the dramatic spray-paint and stencil works of Jonny 4Higher, one of New Zealand’s most experienced street artists. On Sunday October 8 at 2pm, visitors can meet at Lot23 to walk Our Dominion, and discover documentary photographer Paul Lambert’s 50 portraits installed along Dominion Road. On October 13, the Gow Langsford Gallery will present On The Street, an exhibition of photographs by John Crawford, focusing on people from the streets of Auckland. The event is a charity fundraiser for the City Mission, with visitors invited to donate $900 and receive a photograph of their choice from the exhibition. Other photographic exhibitions and events include Anne Noble’s Umbra, on show at Two Rooms gallery;

Seventeen Days of Rykenberg, a selection of images from the 1950s and ’60s on show at the Central City Library; and Deborah Crowe’s digital collage series Outlook, which will occupy the Ponsonby Road windows of Crowe’s Studio 1B. Many of the exhibitions are connected by free guided walks and cycle tours — bookings are essential, and they will fill up quickly, so visit artweekauckland.co.nz to reserve your spot. Artweek Auckland is owned and presented by the New Zealand Contemporary Art Trust, a charitable trust established in 2005 with the objective of creating opportunities for artists, promoting the visual-arts industry, and facilitating greater public access to and engagement with the visual-arts community.
