Geoff Witton casts his eye over what is going on this month.

Thank goodness winter is coming to an end. It has been particularly wet and we know of quite a few courses that had to adjust accordingly.

Inside we cover the remarkable achievements of one Michael Goldstein who with passion and determination brought the LPGA to New Zealand with great success. Well as much success as the very inclement weather allowed. However, moving forwards we note that the change of government may well affect both future LPGA and Men's events as they are a primary source of funding. There are currently three-year binding contracts in place but I do hope the commitment and enthusiasm remains. The events, and the country, deserve top level golf.

Then of course we congratulate Greg Turner and Frank Nobilo for gaining entry into the New Zealand Golf Hall of Fame in October. This was well deserved for two very fine golfers and gentlemen.

Hosting major golf events is horrendously expensive. So, it was with great pleasure that we learned that Manawatu Golf Club had committed to presenting the 2018 NZ PGA Championship again next February. This will be a fantastic introduction to the Men's Open in Queenstown which is in week one of March. So, get along to Palmerston North and watch a lot of class golf.

Last month's Final Word certainly created a lot of feedback. Where do you best buy golf clubs from? To balance matters out we invited a response from the owner of new mega retailer Pro Drive. Thought provoking. I would never buy a new set of quality clubs without them being properly fitted now!

Lydia is certainly showing good signs of improvement but the whole class of 2017 has moved up a few notches. The current quality of the LPGA golf is just sublime. Ko shot 67 in her final round in Kuala Lumpur at the Sime Darby in Kuala Lumpar, but was four shots off the winner Cristie Kerr of the United States, who finished 15-under par, one shot in front of Danielle Kang, Jacqui Concolino and Shanshan Feng.

Then of course we have reports, photographs and video of Tiger getting back to work. The claims are that that all the operations (is it 4?) have worked and he is getting back to full strength. Only time will tell on this.

We doubt it. Enjoy this magazine
