Not only was the softly rolling parkland course presented at it's very best by Course Superintendent Stuart Baird and his greenkeeping team, but an enthusiastic band of Akarana members and volunteers assisted NZ Golf and the NZPGA in running a well organised 72 hole tournament.

VIP Hospitality for sponsors in the Neville Newcomb Insurance marquee included a generous offering of continuous food and beverage over the entire four days, with views from the deck or marquee just off the 18th green. Naming right sponsors Barfoot & Thompson have a long association with Akarana, with managing director Peter Thompson, and CEO Chris Dobbie, both fielding teams in the Pro Am on Wednesday 4th April.

Entries in 2018 reflected the very best of home-based talent – with many of the biggest names returning once again for a chance to have their name etched in history as a Jennian Homes Charles Tour winner.

A fairy tale finish in 2017 saw Michael, Hendry and Gareth Paddison battle out a 4-hole playoff on the Par 4 18th hole, in front of a packed and lively gallery of fans and players, with Paddison claiming his second title at Akarana. Both men return this year along with the likes of Mark Brown, Kieran Muir, Josh Geary, Richard Lee, Grant Moorhead, David Smail, Brad Shilton, Daniel Pearce, Jared Pendar, Harry Bateman, Josh Munn, Brad Hayward, Ryan Chisnell and more.

Previous winners include Josh Geary, Kieran Muir, and Gareth Paddison twice, along with Caroline Bon, Wenyung Keh, Brittney Dryland, and Hanee Song in the women's tournament.

Sports commentator, and Akarana member, Brendan Telfer broadcasted his Radio Live show, live from the main lounge all afternoon on the Saturday, moving day!.

Visiting members of the public were welcomed at Akarana to enjoy watching some of New Zealand's best golfing talent either from the viewing decks or alongside on the course itself – free entry. Café and Bar facilities operate each, where there was ample parking.
