Ram ramps up its trucks’ luxury
RAM HAS ANNOUNCED A NEW UPMARKET trim package, the Limited Edition Tungsten, for the 2018 model year.
Ram boss Mike Manley says the Limited Tungsten Edition is “the highest trim level Ram has made available,” and is in response to customer input.
Tungsten Edition Rams get Light Greystone suede headliners and ultra-premium Natura Plus Frost and Indigo-coloured premium leather throughout the cabin.
The luxury leather is on the seats, instrument panel, steering wheel, centre armrest and doors. Tungsten models also get Indigocoloured carpet with rubber floormats and snap-out Frost and Indigo carpeted inserts.
Real wood interior components and unique badges complete the interior trim.
On the bodywork, the trucks get a Tungsten chrome grille with large R-A-M lettering, a sports bonnet that is exclusive to the Ram 1500, and body-colour matched bumpers, mirrors, door handles and running boards.
Headlights have a black surround borrowed from the Sport model, and there are bodycolour R-A-M letters on the tailgate. Tungsten chrome accents and badging with unique satin-painted Limited wheels complete the package.
Ram Tungsten models also get air suspension (Ram 1500 only), navigational radio, remote start, reversing camera, power adjustable pedals with memory, heated steering wheel, and ventilated and heated front seats
The standard sound system has an 8.4-inch screen and is Apple Carplay, Android Auto compatible.
The Tungsten Edition package is available on Ram 1500, Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 singleand dual-rear wheels; Crew Cab and Mega Cab (heavy-duty); four- and two-wheel drive; and short- and long-wheelbase models.
Ram says the luxury truck segment has grown significantly in the past nine years, and its heavy-duty pick-up buyers in the USA “gravitate toward luxury trims.
“More than 40 percent of the Ram 3500 heavy-duty sales mix is in one of the brand’s three luxury trims.”
Ram says buyers like trucks which have luxury features found in premium-priced cars and SUVS, but which also have a “hardworking capability that no passenger car can match.”
Ram has developed an exclusive bodywork and luxury interior package for its pick-up trucks. This is the Tungsten 1500. Tungsten exterior package includes striking alloy wheels. Ram says US pick-up truck buyers are seeking rugged trucks with the luxury of a high-end car.
