FOURTEEN STARTERS ARE CONFIRMED FOR THE 2017-2018 Portergroup V8 Ute racing series which starts at Taupo in the first weekend of December.
Two further vehicles will join the field at selected rounds of the four-round series.
The series is contested by Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore utes, and was won last season by Richard Moore from Matt Spratt and former NZ V8 saloon car series champion Paul Manuell.
Leading New Zealand equipment hire firm, the Portergroup, confirmed in September that it will continue its naming rights sponsorship of the series.
Portergroup is New Zealand’s largest supplier of new and used construction equipment. It has a long history in motorsport with Robin Porter driving racing trucks and his late son, Mark, competing successfully in Tranzam sports sedan and V8 Supercar events.
Portergroup’s Simon Porter says the “series, drivers and category management did a great job for us last season… We’re delighted to be back as title sponsor for another season.”
Family member Andrew Porter, who made a one-off appearance in Peter Ward’s Commodore at the final round at Hampton Downs last season, will contest the entire2017-2018 series in a Portergroup-liveried Holden.
Series managing director Paul Isaac described the Portergroup sponsorship as “great news for us and actually, with the recent restructure we are now much further ahead in terms of planning and confirmed drivers than we have been in recent seasons.”
TV3’S CRC Motorsport show will carry coverage of the series on Sunday afternoons.
