V8 Utes roar on track in De­cem­ber

FOUR­TEEN STARTERS ARE CON­FIRMED FOR THE 2017-2018 Porter­group V8 Ute rac­ing se­ries which starts at Taupo in the first week­end of De­cem­ber.

Two fur­ther ve­hi­cles will join the field at se­lected rounds of the four-round se­ries.

The se­ries is con­tested by Ford Fal­con and Holden Com­modore utes, and was won last sea­son by Richard Moore from Matt Spratt and for­mer NZ V8 saloon car se­ries cham­pion Paul Manuell.

Lead­ing New Zealand equip­ment hire firm, the Porter­group, con­firmed in Septem­ber that it will con­tinue its nam­ing rights spon­sor­ship of the se­ries.

Porter­group is New Zealand’s largest sup­plier of new and used construction equip­ment. It has a long his­tory in mo­tor­sport with Robin Porter driv­ing rac­ing trucks and his late son, Mark, com­pet­ing suc­cess­fully in Tranzam sports sedan and V8 Su­per­car events.

Porter­group’s Si­mon Porter says the “se­ries, driv­ers and cat­e­gory man­age­ment did a great job for us last sea­son… We’re de­lighted to be back as ti­tle spon­sor for an­other sea­son.”

Fam­ily mem­ber An­drew Porter, who made a one-off ap­pear­ance in Peter Ward’s Com­modore at the fi­nal round at Hamp­ton Downs last sea­son, will con­test the en­tire2017-2018 se­ries in a Porter­group-liv­er­ied Holden.

Se­ries man­ag­ing di­rec­tor Paul Isaac de­scribed the Porter­group spon­sor­ship as “great news for us and ac­tu­ally, with the re­cent re­struc­ture we are now much fur­ther ahead in terms of plan­ning and con­firmed driv­ers than we have been in re­cent sea­sons.”

TV3’S CRC Mo­tor­sport show will carry cov­er­age of the se­ries on Sun­day af­ter­noons.
