Fo­ton is big player in China

CHI­NESE COM­MER­CIAL VE­HI­CLE BRAND FO­TON WAS FOUNDED in 1996, and is head­quar­tered in Bei­jing.

It makes light-, medium- and heavy-duty trucks, vans, utes, buses and construction ma­chin­ery ve­hi­cles.

It has an ac­cu­mu­la­tive pro­duc­tion and sales vol­ume of about eight mil­lion ve­hi­cles, and is China’s largest com­mer­cial ve­hi­cle man­u­fac­turer.

In 2006, it signed an agree­ment with Cum­mins to form a 50/50 joint ven­ture com­pany to man­u­fac­ture diesel en­gines in China.

Fo­ton also es­tab­lished a joint ven­ture, China Bei­jing Fo­ton Daim­ler Au­to­mo­tive Co Ltd with Daim­ler, the par­ent com­pany of Mercedes-benz and Freight­liner

The joint ven­ture com­pany makes Au­man medium- and heavy­duty trucks, and OM457 heavy-duty en­gines.
