ROUGH NIGHT
directed by Lucia Aniello
Scarlett Johansson and four friends venture to Miami for a bachelorette party in a film that promises the carnival antics of Bridesmaids but, after a coke-fuelled, stripper-related incident, ends up closer to Weekend at Bernie’s. Rough Night is the latest in a glut of female-ensemble comedies – Bad Moms, Sisters, How to be Single – and follows that routine well enough, even if it loses its grip on an ever-escalating predicament. It’s mostly made worthwhile by Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon, who consistently outclasses everyone around her, delivering every absurd and outlandish line with impeccable timing. James Robins
