Catch of the Week
AUCKWARD AND HAPPY: Web series Auckward Love, a rambunctious and slightly NSFW comedy about the dating travails of four single women in Auckland, is back for season three. Created by Holly Shervey, who plays Alice, and produced and directed by Emmett Skilton ( The Almighty Johnsons), the series has been self-funded until now, but won NZ On Air support after it was made available on TVNZ OnDemand. More info at auckwardloveseries.com; season three is available from Friday. Another group of women continue their plan for worldweb series domination: the Candle Wasters from Wellington made their mark with modern Shakespearean adaptations, and have now produced Happy Playland, an original queer romcom musical set in a children’s playground: tinyurl.comNZLPlayland.
TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE SUN: There’s a ton of footage on YouTube from live streams of the “Great American Eclipse” taken from various places in the US as the solar eclipse moved across the country. If two-plus hours is a bit long, the BBC was live in Oregon discussing the eclipse with Alyssa Drake from the Royal Astronomical Society: tinyurl.com/NZLEclipse. For the full Zen experience without commentary, the PBS live stream is the one: tinyurl.com/NZLPBSEclipse.
