HACKING THE TRAFFIC

New Zealand Listener - - FUTURE OF MOTORING -

THERE IS POTENTIAL FOR VEHICLE CONNECTIVITY TO CO- ORDINATE TRAFFIC and mitigate congestion. Ideally this would happen in much the same way that information moving around the internet is co-ordinated, with no overall centralised authority. But a decentralised system is much more vulnerable to attack. Governments will need to decide whether a centralised traffic co-ordination system of Orwellian scale is going to be necessary to realise the dream of free-flowing traffic.
