Be­ing over­weight can have a detri­men­tal ef­fect on the livers of chil­dren as young as eight, ac­cord­ing to a study in the Jour­nal of Pe­di­atrics. It found that the big­ger a child’s waist cir­cum­fer­ence at age three, the more likely they are to have mark­ers from non-al­co­holic fatty-liver dis­ease five years later. The dis­ease can even­tu­ally cause cir­rho­sis and even liver cancer.
