The week’s best live action
HORSE RACING Goodness, is it that time of year already? Yes, it is, and you’d probably better start thinking about that early Christmas shopping you always promise yourself you’ll do this year. The Melbourne Cup is live on Tuesday ( Prime 4.30pm), with the big race starting at 5.00pm.
RUGBY The All Blacks take on Japan’s Brave Blossoms ( Sky Sport 1, Saturday, 6.00pm) and there’s yet more rugby-on-the-road on Sunday, with a triple-header live from Soldier Field in Chicago. The Black Ferns, playing on American soil for the first time, take on the USA women’s team at 5.30am on Sky Sport 1. Then it’s Ireland versus Italy (8.30am) and finally the Māori All Blacks play the USA Eagles at 11.30am. For the Māori, it’s the first of three matches on a ground-breaking tour that sees them head next to Brazil and Chile to take on the national teams of those countries.
Rugby fans may also wish to make time for The 1014 Rugby Show (Sky Sport 1, 8.30pm Monday and 9.00pm Tuesday). Gareth Dinneen and Steven Prescott’s rugby-for-nerds show has been a standout since it expanded from the internet onto the Sky schedule and they’ll have the deep analysis on what the All Blacks face next up in Europe.
Meanwhile, there are 14 UEFA Champions League matches spread across multiple Sky channels on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Of note: Spurs take on PSV (Sky Sport 2, Wednesday, 8.55am) and Juventus play Manchester United at home (Sky Sport 2, Thursday, 8.55am).
