WE’RE RESERVING THIS SPOT FOR THOSE LOCAL GUYS & GIRLS THAT ADORN SURF SPOTS THE LENGTH OF AOTEAROA, LIVING FOR THE PURITY AND STOKE OF EACH AND EVERY SURF AT THEIR LOCAL. THEY DON’T CHASE THE LIMELIGHT, NOR REALLY CARE WHAT IS GOING ON AMONGST THE WORLD SURFING SCENE. THEY’RE JUST SURFING FOR THE LOVE OF IT, WHENEVER THEY CAN. THIS ISSUE WE’RE INTRODUCING HAWKES BAY LAD

Age: 20 Nicknames: Crit/Celery Married/family at all? Or relationship? Nah nah too young for all that.

Where do you live? Currently studying down in Christchurch, but originally from the Hawkes Bay and always heading back whenever I can. Where, when and how did you first get into

surfing? First started surfing when I was about 12 at Westshore Surf Club. It was the middle of winter and I remember hating it at first, freezing and not realizing what the big deal was. My old man kept me at it and once I realised how to go along the wave, as opposed to being a white wash warrior, I was hooked.

Travel? Went on a surf trip to Bali with the family when I was 15 and had some good waves. Also been over to the East Coast of Auzzy a couple of times, that place is hectic! Can’t wait to travel the world, love the feeling of getting on a plane, off on an adventure.

Favourite place to surf? Any of the river mouths around home. They can get a bit fickle and we

have some pretty long dry spells. I like to head over to the West Coast, especially Taranaki, they have some sick set ups.

Your perfect surf session? 5-6ft kegs with the boys followed by a few ice cold brews. Your stance on localism? Everyone is entitled to be protective of their local break but no-one owns the water. Therefore, there can be a fine line between protecting your break and being hostile. Occupation: Student.

Life Highlight? Some of the waves we got with the boys at the start of the year, off Cyclone Daphne, were crazy good. Was supposed to be coming home for a two week study break and ended up surfing every day for six to eight hours....

Fave beer? Lion Brown.

Rugby or League? Used to be more of a rugby fan, but the 15 minute scrums have turned me into more of a league supporter.
