New Zealand Surfing - - Between Sets -

Dunedins Rex Askerud has had a unfortunate run of fl luck kl lately after already being out of the water since March with a tear in his medial ligament from surfing and then having surgery for surfers ear. With a mid winter trip to the Gold Coast booked in Rex was looking forward to some well deserved water time and after being back in the water for only a week building up his paddle fitness he was primed and ready. Then only three days before flying out to Oz he decided to change a light bulb in his kitchen standing on a bar stool and the rest is history.

“Here is an x-ray of my broken wrist, the result of me falling off the kitchen bar stool. Yeah go figure. I fell and landed on top of my wrist/arm which needed a metal plate inserted as it was shattered. We still went to the GC for a few days then Byron, then the Sunshine coast. I’d been looking so forward to surfing and I ended up checking all the spots out and watched a lot of fun waves being ridden. I was pretty philosophical about it and it wasn’t epic while I was there, but I don’t get many chances to surf in a vest and boardies. Ah well the cast comes off in a coupla weeks and I hope to be back surfing by mid Sept.”

We wish Rex all the best in his recovery, but at least until he gets back in the water he can relax on back listening to thumping beats through his Skullcandy Headphones.

Think you've got the goods for the next issue and want a shot at the Skull Candy headphones. Show us your worthy gash and we'll be the judge. Send clear hi-res jpegs to cory@nzsurf, and put Skullcandygashgore in the subject field...
