Tucked behind the verdant mountains and golden beaches of Oahu’s North Shore stands Turtle Bay Resort. Surrounded by perfect surf, hidden trails, and secret beaches, Turtle Bay prides itself on its ability to grant its guests access to the inaccessible. With this mantra at the forefront of this experiential resort, Turtle Bay recently announced the Gerry Lopez Surf Realization and Yoga Retreat. Through the resort, participants will be privy to a surf- and yoga-inspired vacation with Mr. Pipeline himself, Gerry Lopez. Additionally, the resort has also created a Surf Photography Workshop where master surf photographer Brian Bielmann and adventure-sports photographer Michael Clark will host a four-day clinic, giving guests an opportunity to hone their game behind the lens under the tutelage of two of the most esteemed photographers in the business. “We’re really proud and honored to be able to offer our guests these once-in-alifetime opportunities. If you’re a die-hard surf and/or yoga fan, you’ll know just how amazing it would be to spend a vacation surfing and learning about the waves on the North Shore from Mr. Pipeline himself, Gerry Lopez,” said Skip Taylor, experience creator at Turtle Bay. “If you’re a yoga enthusiast, Gerry will be incorporating the skills and knowledge he’s learned over the past four decades studying yoga. With the Gerry Lopez Surf Realization and Yoga Retreat, we’re truly living up to our claim of offering our guests access to the inaccessible. These are the kind of opportunities that you’ll only see at Turtle Bay.” The four-day long surf and yoga retreat with Gerry Lopez begins on December 9 and will run until December 12. Because the retreat will be capped at 20 people, participants will be provided with plenty of opportunity to learn from Gerry in a close, intimate environment. Not only will participants be able to practice surfing, yoga, and meditation with Gerry, but they’ll also be given VIP access to the Billabong Pipe Masters from the very man that helped pioneer tube-riding at Pipeline. If you’re not a big-wave expert, don’t fret—the retreat caters to surfers and yoga enthusiasts of all levels. When it comes to surf and adventure photography, with its idyllic lighting, landscape, and action, Oahu’s North Shore offers the perfect setting to hone your skills behind the lens. In the Surf Photography Workshop, which will run from October 31 to November 3, expert surf and adventure photographers Brian Bielmann and Michael Clark will be working hand in hand with participants to capture some of the North Shore’s most amazing moments. This four-day workshop combines daily photo shoots at world-class surfing locations as well as classroom instruction. Half of the time—in the morning and late-afternoon when the lighting is best—participants will be “in the field” shooting jaw-dropping surfing on the North Shore. When not knee-deep in the action, participants will be spending their time in the classroom where they’ll reflect on the day’s images, discuss the latest in photography gear, and the general business of photography as well holding in-depth discussions on the art of shooting surfing. The course will also cover digital workflow in detail using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Version 4.X. Space is limited for both the Surf and Yoga Retreat with Gerry Lopez as well as the Surf Photography Course.
