NIXON ART COMP

New Zealand Surfing - - News -

As surfers, art is generally a big part of our lifestyle. As groms we drew waves in our homework books, we find driftwood shaped like waves on beach walks and shoot pics of ourselves standing under rocks and trees that may resemble waves. You could say our lives are owned by the thrill of surf. So it’s only natural that we should reward the artist in us all. Nixon has generously come up with an amazing timepiece for each issue’s featured

artist. 11 year old Keahn Rishton of Papamoa has been surfing since he was five and simply loves the sport, in fact his days are spent dreaming of riding the perfect wave, and that was his inspiration in the design of his digital art titled “Dream Idea” a manipulated image of himself riding his ‘Dream wave’. Keahn has already picked up accolades for his work making the finals of the New Zealand MADE awards (movie and digital excellence) where only six students from around the country are selected, and now he wins the Nixon Art award. Excellent work Keahn, let’s hope those dreams become reality soon enough! If you have any artwork you think will inspire others that is surf orientated, then send hi-res jpegs of your masterpiece along with your details to cory@nzsurfmag.co.nz remember to put ‘Nixon Art Comp’ in the subject field. Get busy and create…
