Nixon Art

-

As surfers, art is generally a big part of our lifestyle. As groms we drew waves in our homework books, we find driftwood shaped like waves on beach walks and shoot pics of ourselves standing under rocks and trees that may resemble waves. You could say our lives are owned by the thrill of surf. So it’s only natural that we should reward the artist in us all. Nixon has generously come up with an amazing timepiece for each issues featured artist. Steven Anderson of Auckland while on a recent vacation to the Carribean which would be the envy of many, found himself drifting off into a daydream and before he knew it his hands had automatically sculpted a lineup he titled 'Sand-up Barrels'. Making waves in the sand is something that all surfers can relate to especially in our younger years, but at 35 years old Steven received some strange looks and comments from passing beach combers most commenting "Aren't you a little old to be building sand castles?". We don't agree and reckon as long as you are creating something that will inspire your next surf, then you will keep the stoke burning till that day. If you have any artwork you think will inspire others that is surf orientated, then send hi-res jpegs of your masterpiece along with your details to cory@nzsurfmag.co.nz remember to put ‘Nixon Art Comp’ in the subject field. Get busy and create…
