Hail­ing from Mahia, Richard or Ri­cardo as he is also known, is one of only two Kiwi surfers to win Na­tional ti­tles across the board win­ning the U14 twice, the U16 twice, the U18 once and the Open Na­tional Ti­tle once. In 2005 at Opunake Ri­cardo won the Na­tional Ti­tle at only 16 years of age be­com­ing our youngest ever Open Cham­pion. In 2011 Ri­cardo em­barked on the WQS tour pick­ing up sev­eral great re­sults such as 3rd in Su­per Surf In­ter­na­tional 10,000 Prime 2011, and 3rd’s in the Azores Prime 10,000 and Sao Paulo Open 10,000 Prime Brazil. In 2014, he fin­ished 16th to qual­ify for the World Tour our 4th surfer to do so be­hind Maz, Paige Hareb and Sarah Ma­son. Ric fin­ished the World Tour ranked 31 but also fin­ished with a 5th place at the Oi Rio Pro in Brazil. Ric re­cently won his first WQS event the WQS 3000 Mar­tinique Surf Pro.
