Women are leading the charge this year at the Alliance Françoise French Film Festival and at the front of the pack is Natalie Portman. The 35-yearold Oscar-winning actress stars in Planetarium, a story of two psychic American sisters travelling in pre-war Europe.

“It’s crazy – in 25 years of making films, this is the first time I’ve been in a feature directed by a woman,” says Natalie of award-winning French director Rebecca Zlotowski, whose most recent film

Grand Central picked up numerous awards in 2013.

“In past films I’ve worked on, it’s rare to even be working with another actress,” tells Natalie.

But for this film, the Black Swan actress had budding star Lily-Rose Depp (daughter of actor Johnny Depp), by her side and the two became fast friends.

“Our director sent Lily and me to a spa together,” explains Natalie. “Before we even knew each other, we were getting massages together, going like, ‘Hi, it’s nice to meet you.’ But it was great – we became very comfortable with each other very quickly.”

Natalie has been brushing up on her French for the role, but she now lives in Paris and is married to French dancer Benjamin Millepied, who she met while filming Black Swan.

Just when you thought Natalie couldn’t do any better than her portrayal of Jackie Kennedy in Jackie, she pulls you in again with another enchanting film!
