The spy we loved A TRIBUTE TO BOND

FAREWELL TO A LEGEND

-

You can either grow old gracefully or begrudgingly,” said Roger Moore. “I chose both.”

After a short but brave battle with cancer, Sir Roger Moore, one of the longestserving actors to portray legendary spy James Bond, passed away at his Switzerland home last week aged 89.

“The love that he was surrounded by in his final days was so great, it cannot be quantified in words alone,” said his three children, Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian in a statement, adding that their focus would now be on supporting their dad’s fourth wife, Kristina Tholstrup.

“We know our own love and adoration will be magnified many times over across the world, by people who knew him for his films, his television shows and his passionate work for Unicef, which he considered to be his greatest achievement.”

The famously funny actor was best known for playing Bond in seven films, after taking on the iconic role from Sean Connery.

Tributes flowed from famous friends. Sir Michael Caine wrote on Twitter, “I am devastated today at losing one of my oldest and closest friends Roger Moore, my world will never be the same again,” and former Bond girl Jane Seymour called him “my Bond”.

“He was so funny, kind and thoughtful to everyone around him, and in that Roger taught me what a movie star really was and should be,” she said.

While Roger’s death was a shock to the industry, the actor himself had given his mortality some thought, once saying,

“I’ve not planned my funeral.

I’m not the Queen. A procession through the streets of Stockwell would be nice, I suppose. But when I go, I’d just like everyone to say, ‘He lived longer than anyone I knew.’”

Rest in peace, 007.
