I would like to know how to soften towels please. Regards, Chris Calder Hi Chris,

I often get asked this question as there’s nothing worse than buying new towels that seem to have a finish on them which prevents them from being cuddly and soft. Often the towels are treated by the manufacturer to prevent them from being damaged in transit and while they are sitting on shop shelves. Here is my recipe for treating all new cloth products, including sheets, clothing, towels, tea towels and baby clothes. NEW CLOTHES SOAKER

To 9 litres (an average bucket) of warm water add ½ cup washing soda and dissolve. Soak clothing overnight, then launder as usual.
