New Zealand Woman’s Weekly - - LOCAL CELEBRITIES -

TVNZ 1 news presenter

“The Woman’s Weekly was always part of our house. Mum was, and is, a regular reader. She especially loved stories about the royals but I remember reading it pretty often as a kid too. This was during the Jean Wishart days and those quaint old features, such as Over the Teacups. The first story about me in the Weekly came in 1983. I didn’t make the cover – the Queen Mother was there – but they did a three or four-page spread about me and my family. It was in black and white. My late wife Cecile was pregnant with our youngest Reuben, who is now 33 and a father himself. After Cecile died, I was married for a while to the publisher of the Weekly Sarah Sandley. But to prove she didn’t play favourites, I didn’t appear in the magazine’s pages again until after we split!”
