Gemma’s salon has had many requests for the new trend from ladies over 40. “I have also suggested it to a lot of clients who haven’t asked and they have taken me up on it,” the stylist says. “I always like to put it out there no matter what because the colour can be tailored so it suits anyone, regardless of their age.”

Gemma says a good hairdresser will always consider your colouring. “When it’s matched correctly with your skin tone and eye colour, it has the potential to be your most striking colour yet,” encourages Gemma.

She likes the effect of all-over colour for pastel shades, but when it comes to bright splashes of colour, Gemma prefers to paint it on free-hand rather than use foils. “I find it gives a more blended result.”

A stand-out piece in the fringe or hidden panels of colour underneath the hair, that can only be seen when the hair is up, are other options, Gemma suggests. “Life is short, so why not have fun with your hair?” she says.
