Legendary screen veterans Dame Helen Mirren and Donald Sutherland are combining their acting talents to take on the leading roles in the heartwarming new film

The Leisure Seeker.

Donald (82) plays a man named John whose memory is starting to fail. But instead of letting life fade away, he and his sprightly wife Ella, played by Helen, go on a cross-country campervan adventure.

“I was probably 20 pages into the script when John sat up and started to talk to me,” reflects Donald of his character. “It was a wonderful conversation. He was very articulate. And very specific.

And he liked the script.”

For Helen (72), the decision to sign on for the film wasn’t so easy. She tells, “I was a little wary of a film focused on old age, but eventually I looked at the work of the director,

Paolo Virzì. I thought he had a wonderful, humane, witty and easy way of approaching these complicated but very, very realistic human situations.”

Helen says of the film, “There’s nothing quite like that later phase of love, when you know each other so incredibly well, you know each other’s faults and you know each other’s strengths.”
