Alongside our fabulous cover girl Lorraine, a whole host of celebrities will be walking in the Mercy Hospice and New Zealand Woman’s Weekly show, including Newshub’s dynamic duo Mike McRoberts and Samantha Hayes. We caught up with them to see how they’re feeling about their catwalk debut!
Do you have a personal connection with Mercy Hospice?
Mike: I’ve had a couple of friends who have been to Mercy Hospice and I’ve seen first-hand the amazing work the staff do there. Often in the most difficult circumstances, Mercy Hospice provides compassion, understanding and dignity.
Why did you agree to take part in Mercy Hospice and NZWW’s fashion show?
Sam: Mike twisted my arm − the thought of walking down a runway is terrifying but I thought the same thing about Dancing with the Stars and that turned out okay! Plus, it’s for a great cause.
How are you feeling about taking to the catwalk at NZFW? Did you ever think you’d be a Fashion Week model?
Sam: I never thought I’d walk in a fashion week show, but here goes – 2018 has been my year of getting outside my comfort zone and this very much continues the trend. Mike: Very nervous − this is completely out of my comfort zone − but luckily I have Sam cat-walking with me, so I’m sure she’ll be able to give me a few tips.
If you had to describe your personal style, what would it be?
Mike: I’d say my style is classic − but then I guess as a grey-haired, 52-year-old, I probably don’t have a lot of options there.
Sam: This is a tough question. A close friend once pointed out that I like structure and I think she was bang on. Loose clothing doesn’t work that well on TV, so I lean towards clothes that are form-fitting − without being too tight. I like dresses because you can pop one on and you’re pretty much done. One element is far easier than two or more.
What message would you give to Kiwis about hospice and the work they do?
Mike: You never know when you’ll need the amazing work of hospice, until you need them. Give generously now!
