Eastern Southland schools made their mark on the Duke of Edinburgh Hillary awards on Saturday as they walked away with 16 gold awards. On the evening there were 51 award recipients with 10 going to students from Tapa- nui’s Blue Mountain College. College award leader Vicki Crawford said since 2007, the college had received 63 gold Duke of Edinburgh awards. The school encouraged its pupils to become ‘‘the all round student’’, which could be why so many achieved the Duke of Edinburgh, she said. Three students from Gore High, two from Menzies College and one from St Peters College also received the gold award. Blue
