Oxford Kindergarten children learn about giving
The Gore Kids’ Hub is a step closer to its $1.7 million fundraising goal after receiving a $231,000 Lotteries Facilities Grant this week.
Committee member Bronnie Grant said the grant meant the Gore Kids’ Hub building, which will officially open on January 30, is now debt free.
‘‘Essentially it means that out of our $1.7m budget we’ve got $220,000 left to go,’’ Grant said.
‘‘It’s a fantastic Christmas present.’’
The building, at Wayland Park next to the MLT Events Centre, has been built by the Gore Playcentre, Gore Toy Library and Gore Parents’ Centre and all three groups would cover ongoing costs for the building once they moved in. An office and storage area would be rented out to provide additional income.
The Lotteries grant means the committee can now make a start on the Hub’s $375,000 playground. Equipment had been sourced from Europe, she said. ‘‘We’ll be looking at getting it up and going for next summer. It’ll take about eight weeks to get it built once we give the go-ahead.’’
