‘‘Our approach in reviewing feedback is to understand the reasons for any issues raised, and then consider options for improving the design.’’

Edendale residents and those from further afield will get their chance to have a say about the proposed realignment of State Highway 1 north of the township.

The NZ Transport Agency will host an open day in the township today, and hopes the public will give feedback on the proposals for the $15m project.

NZ Transport Agency southern business unit manager Ian Duncan said feedback provided by the public would be used to shape the proposal for the new road, which would bypassing the northern boundary of Edendale township and the Fonterra factory.

There were two proposals for the public to consider.

‘‘The only difference in these two is the interaction with the existing state highway at the northern end.

‘‘The project is in the preimplementation phase when the detailed design, community engagement, resource consents and property acquisition is undertaken.’’

The agency has purchased land for the project, but that did not infer any pre-determination of the alignment proposal.

At the moment the design focus is on storm-water management, pavement design and landscaping,

Plans of the proposed designs had been posted to residents in the area and the open day was to allow them to speak with transport agency staff.

‘‘We will have a short survey, which people can complete either on the day or later online. It will ask if they support the project, what their interest is in the project, which plan they prefer, and what key features they would like to see in the project.

The survey will go on the project webpage today and stay live for the following two weeks so those who could not attend the open day could still have their say.

Construction begin next year.

The open day will be held at the Edendale Christian Activity Centre between 3pm and 7pm. is expected to
