Front page designs among best in NZ
The Newslink has achieved national recognition over the last two weeks, with its front page designs being rated among the top two among Fairfax Media’s more than 50 community newspapers.
The front page of the October 27 edition, featuring the stunning image of young Arven John in a field of red tulips at Edendale, was just pipped for the top prize by the Rotorua Review.
The image, taken by Newslink reporter Rachael Kelly, also featured in a slideshow on Stuff, which was viewed by thousands of people over the following days.
Last week’s front page, which focused on international fly fisher April Vokey, was also voted runner-up.
Jeremy Rees, Fairfax national communities editor, said papers like the Newslink are always looking for new ways to engage readers through bright, interesting front pages and informative newspapers.
‘‘We run an internal competition to encourage people to really work on improving local papers.
‘‘We think it’s working really well.
‘‘We are getting very good feedback about what we’re doing to improve our papers.’’
