Gore re­porter Canon Me­dia Award finalist

Newslink re­porter Rachael Kelly has been named a finalist for com­mu­nity jour­nal­ist of the year in the pres­ti­gious Canon Me­dia Awards.

The Gore-based jour­nal­ist’s en­try port­fo­lio in­cluded sto­ries on the un­cer­tainty South­land farm­ers faced over last year’s vel­vetleaf out­break, Moun­tain Col­lege head boy Taine Rarere tak­ing on Olympic gold medal­ist Hamish Bond in a row-off at the West Otago A&P Show, and an amus­ing ac­count of the Mataura’s Got Tal­ent show at Mataura Pri­mary School.

Kelly also writes a weekly col­umn called Mean­while, Out­side Auck­land, which has been pub­lished in more than 25 com­mu­nity news­pa­pers through­out New Zealand.

The win­ners of the 2017 Canon Awards will be an­nounced at a gala din­ner at The Lang­ham in Auck­land on May 19.
