Gore reporter Canon Media Award finalist
Newslink reporter Rachael Kelly has been named a finalist for community journalist of the year in the prestigious Canon Media Awards.
The Gore-based journalist’s entry portfolio included stories on the uncertainty Southland farmers faced over last year’s velvetleaf outbreak, Mountain College head boy Taine Rarere taking on Olympic gold medalist Hamish Bond in a row-off at the West Otago A&P Show, and an amusing account of the Mataura’s Got Talent show at Mataura Primary School.
Kelly also writes a weekly column called Meanwhile, Outside Auckland, which has been published in more than 25 community newspapers throughout New Zealand.
The winners of the 2017 Canon Awards will be announced at a gala dinner at The Langham in Auckland on May 19.
