100TH BIRTH­DAY

The Gore and Dis­tricts Memo­rial RSA will cel­e­brate its 100th birth­day on Satur­day with a dawn ser­vice at the Gore ceno­taph at 8am, fol­lowed by break­fast at the clu­b­rooms. Fol­low­ing a for­mal din­ner on Satur­day night, an open day, with dis­plays and ac­tiv­i­ties in­clud­ing a mock bat­tle, will be held on Sun­day.

MEET THE CAN­DI­DATES

Meet the Clutha-South­land can­di­dates vy­ing for a seat in the elec­tion this month at a meet­ing at the Heart­land Ho­tel Croy­don on Fri­day at 7.30. All are wel­come and there will be ques­tions from the floor.

YOUTH AS­SAULT

A 16-year-old boy was charged with in­jur­ing with in­tent af­ter an as­sault at the Gore skate part on Satur­day. He will ap­pear in the Gore Youth Court and his as­so­ci­ate, a 13-year-old boy, has been re­ferred to Youth Aid. Their vic­tim, another 13-year-old boy, was taken to Gore Hospi­tal as a pre­cau­tion.

‘CANS FOR GOOD’ BACK

Wat­tie’s Cans for Good, the na­tional can ‘col­lec­tion, cre­ation, ed­u­ca­tion and do­na­tion’ cam­paign run by The Sal­va­tion Army in part­ner­ship with Wat­tie’s for New Zealand schools will be held in late Oc­to­ber.
