NO CHARGES FOR BAR­CLAY

For­mer Clutha-South­land MP Todd Bar­clay won’t face charges over al­le­ga­tions he taped the con­ver­sa­tions of for­mer staff mem­ber Glenys Dickson in his Gore elec­torate of­fice. The in­ves­ti­ga­tion was re­opened af­ter then-Prime Min­is­ter Bill English said in June he knew of the record­ings, which re­sulted in Bar­clay’s res­ig­na­tion.

TOURIST SPEND­ING UP

South­land’s tourism spend is up 10 per cent for the year ended September 2017. Figures re­leased by Ven­ture South­land show there has been a 25 per cent in­crease in the num­ber of in­ter­na­tional guest nights and the econ­omy has ben­e­fited by $623 mil­lion from do­mes­tic and in­ter­na­tional visi­tors.
