Twelve-year-old suspected in robbery
Police have charged four male youths over the aggravated robbery of the Sunbeam Milk Bar in Gore on October 5.
A 16-year-old, two 15-year-olds and a 14-yearold have been charged and are expected to appear in the Invercargill Youth Court on November 10, police said in a press release on Tuesday.
A 12 year old alleged offender has been referred to Youth Aid.
Owner Eddie Cooney told Newslink he was alone in the shop when three boys wearing balaclavas charged in.
He was threatened with a machete and his hand was cut.
Cooney, who has run the dairy for more than 40 years, installed cameras after the attack, which was the third to target his shop.
He was thankful for the support of local businesses and the community.
‘‘I can’t thank them enough for their generosity.’’
Sergeant Greg Ballantyne said police would like to thank members of the Gore and eastern Southland community who have been extremely helpful in providing information that has assisted police.
‘‘I’d also like to acknowledge the kind people who have helped the victim and his family through this difficult time. They are very grateful for this assistance.’’
