The Auck­land Bio­engi­neer­ing In­sti­tute has de­vel­oped a new breast im­age anal­y­sis tech­nol­ogy, to find the ex­act lo­ca­tion of tu­mours. Cur­rently, sev­eral dif­fer­ent tech­nolo­gies are used to lo­cate tu­mours, and each re­quires the pa­tient to be in a dif­fer­ent po­si­tion to get an ac­cu­rate read­ing – mean­ing when it comes to surgery, and be­ing in a dif­fer­ent po­si­tion again, it can be hard for the sur­geon to find the tu­mour. The new tool will find the ex­act lo­ca­tion of the tu­mour and au­to­mat­i­cally re­port it to clin­i­cians, for a re­li­able di­ag­no­sis and surgery.
