Theatre revamp sits well
A $90,000 refurbishment of the auditorium at Orewa’s Centrestage Theatre is now well under way.
Before Christmas volunteers removed seats from the auditorium then separated them from the frames so they could be re-upholstered.
The frames have been sanded down and repainted and other painting jobs done.
Another big effort will be needed in the last week of this month to reassemble the seats and install them.
Funding for this proj ect has come from fundraising, donations and a grant from the ASB Community Trust. The shortfall will be made up by further fundraising.
Upcoming fundraising events include car boot sales on the last Sunday of the month beginning in February, A Garden of Quilts exhibition by Ngaire Brooks from February 10-13, a fashion parade on March 31, and two Anzac concerts on April 17.
These special events will complement the regular garage sales, newspaper collection and sausage sizzles.
In addition, people can donate $120 to refurbish a seat.
They will then have their name attached on a plaque.
Supporting roles: Graeme and Rosalie Mayo are busy helping refurbish Centrestage Theatre. Besides the theatre company, 40 other groups used the facility last year.
