Salon owners cutting it with the best

Owners of New Plymouth’s Just Cuts hair salon have proved to be a cut above the rest.

Laurie and Paul Broomhall have taken out the top gong at the Just Cuts Franchise Awards.

The couple were named Franchisee of the Year, New Zealand and while they couldn’t make it to the company’s Annual International Conference in Thailand, they were ‘‘really thrilled’’ to receive the accolade.

The Broomhalls were awarded for their outstanding operational performance, successful local area marketing initiatives, team training excellence and their ongoing commitment to the Just Cuts brand.

A huge achievement considering only five years ago the couple decided to take the leap from working for someone else to doing it for themselves.

‘‘We were looking for a good small business we could manage alongside our then fulltime jobs,’’ Laurie said.

Laurie come from an accounting, office management background and Paul was in staff management.

They decided the best option for them was to join the Just Cuts realm and now they own Just Cuts salons in New Plymouth, Wanganui, and Coastlands and are part of a network of owners happy to share knowledge.

Laurie said they kept their fingers on the pulse of their businesses via daily phone calls, emails, an internal system, as well as regular visits.

She and Paul enjoy working as both leaders and team members in a franchise community.

‘‘We think the Just Cuts system is brilliant. Everything works. If you just stick to the system you have no problems.’’

An added perk of owning three hair salons is being spoilt for choice when it comes to how to wear your hair and Laurie admits they probably do get a few more haircuts than your average person would.

While it has been a learning curve the couple are excited about continuing to grow their portfolio.

‘‘Paul and Laurie have consistently been standout amongst our network of New Zealand Owners over the past five years, said Denis McFadden, CEO and founder of Just Cuts.

‘‘Their commitment to and passion for the Just Cuts way of being is contagious and they really are an embodiment of everything we stand for quality, excellence and positivity,’’ McFadden said.

Just Cuts owners Laurie and Paul Broomhall are the franchisees of the year.
