Kia ora koutou. Well, the people have spoken but unfortunately the message is more than a little muddled.

It will be a few weeks before we know what the election result will bring but it is important these things are not rushed. Better to get it right now than have to have an election in 18 months.

It has been an exciting time with the rise of Jacinda turning heads and hearts, but in the end people seemed to want the status quo.

I must say it is a bit rich of Jacinda to cosy up to the Greens now when she spent the election campaign distancing herself from them.

And ditto for National, who bad-mouthed Winston Peters up hill and down dale but now suddenly he is their best mate.

The party I feel most sorry for is the Ma¯ ori Party and, by extension, the Ma¯ ori people. If Winston goes with National, then once again Ma¯ ori will not have a voice. They will have backed the opposition party. Those who won the Ma¯ ori seats will follow the party line not the people line.

Ma¯ ori need their own voice.
