North Taranaki Midweek - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS -

The weather may be depressing but there was nothing depressing about the Taranaki Bulls rugby team last Friday night. What a spectacular comeback from 7-31 down to win 55-43. It was up there with the best of Ranfurly Shield challenges. Whatever happens against Manawatu we would have to go a long way to see a better Shield game than that.

In direct contrast to that euphoria has been the delay on the final decision about the government. MMP was supposed to stop this I won, you lost scenario. I have no time for either side claiming they have a ‘‘mandate’’. That is arrant nonsense: Labour only got 37% of the vote, which hardly reveals widespread dissatisfaction and National’s share of the vote dropped. It’s time politicians talked to each other about what was best for the country rather than the party.

I know, I know. I live in fairyland.

Finally, more good news. Neighbourly.co.nz now has 500,000 members. That’s half a million people who know how to interact courteously.
