In the early hours of Fe­bru­ary 1 there will be a full lu­nar eclipse where the earth’s shadow will move across the Full Moon and the Moon will pro­gres­sively be­come red­der and dim­mer be­fore the shadow then moves off the Moon again and it re­turns to its nor­mal colour and bright­ness. Weather per­mit­ting, the New Ply­mouth Ob­ser­va­tory, Mars­land Hill, Robe St will be open from mid­night un­til 3am to of­fer view­ing through one or more of its tele­scopes.
