Sports clubs get grants

Every year the New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT) gives out millions of dollars to sports groups throughout the country. While the focus is on sport, various charities, cultural and community groups also benefit from NZCT.

The trust’s money comes from gaming machines and the money goes back to the community in which it was raised.

The grants in the Taranaki region in March are:

Athletics Taranaki, $13,000, towards salary of a developmen­t officer.

Gymnastica Gym Club, $15,000 towards salary of club manager/ head coach.

Inglewood Golf Club, $15,000 towards upgrade of the women’s facilities in the clubrooms.

Mangamahoe Indoor Bowling Club, $1500 towards a new set of indoor bowls.

Matapu Hall Society, $3000 towards painting of dining and kitchen areas.

New Plymouth Rangers AFC, $6000 towards playing uniforms and equipment.

Nganahau A Uru Trust, $5000 towards costs associated with Mounga Tri Series in Taranaki.

No 4 District Federation of NZ Football – Central Football, $50,000 towards salary for Football Developmen­t Officer (Taranaki).

Peringa United AFC, $10,000 towards clubroom roof replacemen­t.

Taranaki Toy Library Trust, $2000 towards salary of coordinato­r.

Tasman Club, $3000 towards greens maintenanc­e.

Tukapa Netball Club, $1200 towards indoor court hire for premier team.

West End Bowling Club, $6000 towards salaries of greenkeepe­r and office manager.

West End Croquet Club, $3000 towards coring of greens.

Total amount distribute­d was $116,700.
