Ngaruawahia police are seeking the public’s assistance after a report of a man attempting to encourage a 16-year-old girl into his vehicle in Ngaruawahia on Wednesday afternoon last week.

The complainant had returned from Hamilton and got off the bus at the intersection of Great South Rd and Galileo St, Ngaruawahia. She crossed Great South Rd and walked across the grassy area to Galileo St.

As she was about to cross Galileo St, a vehicle drove past and the male driver smiled at her and waved. She continued down Galileo St, and as she was crossing Carlton St the vehicle went past her and turned into Carlton St and parked on the corner.

As she passed by, the male driver asked her if she wanted to get into his car and go with him.

She said no and he asked if he could get her phone number so he could contact her later on.

The driver was described as a New Zealand European, aged 19-25 years with loose, curly brown hair that is off the shoulder. He is of skinny build and clean shaven. The vehicle he was driving was described as having four doors, turquoise blue in colour and quite old looking. Police would like to speak to the driver about his behaviour.

Anyone with information can contact the Ngaruawahia police station on 07 824 8199 or alternatively information can be left anonymously with Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
