Make holiday a time for living legends

A new drink driving road safety campaign has been launched in Waikato District off the back of recent national advertising, Stop a mate driving drunk – Legend.

Waikato District Council’s road safety co-ordinator Megan Jolly said the campaign was timely with the new alcohol driving limits that came into effect on December 1 for those aged 20 and over.

She said it could be difficult to tell a mate not to drive but it’s important for everyone to take responsibility for road safety on the roads.

‘‘No one wants to share the road with someone who is over the limit, so we all have to play a part by speaking up.

‘‘ Taking someone’s keys, offering a couch for the night or giving a lift home to someone who is over the limit can help to keep us all safer on the roads,’’ she said.

Ms Jolly said the ‘‘Legend’’ messages would be shared in a wide variety of ways with the community including social media, licensed premises and sports clubs.
