Beating the win­ter blues with mu­sic

A con­cert to beat the win­ter blues is head­ing to Te Kauwhata.

Mar­garet Mathe­son and The Coun­try Con­nec­tion Singers will hold a Win­ter Va­ri­ety Con­cert, All About Love, on Sun­day at Aparangi Village’s Sim­mons Hall.

Start­ing at 2pm, it will fea­ture great mix of old and new with a re­peat of some of the pop­u­lar Bea­tles and ABBA num­bers, Mathe­son said

‘‘We’ve cho­sen a lot of songs... that are bright and bouncy for the win­ter.’’

This year the group is be­ing joined by Maria Baigent from Mi­randa who boasts a con­tralto voice.And Pukekohe’s Stephanie Smith will once again fea­ture at the con­cert on the pi­ano.

Over past years peo­ple had trav­elled from Waiuku, Pukekohe, Huntly and Hamil­ton to en­joy the singing and fun pro­vided by the group, Mathe­son said.

En­try is on a do­na­tion ba­sis and will be put to­wards the Aparangi Build­ing Fund for new units at the village.

Last year the group fundraised for 7-year old Austin Man­ning’s Amer­ica trip for an op­er­a­tion to get him walk­ing again as he suf­fered from cere­bral palsy
