Beating the winter blues with music
A concert to beat the winter blues is heading to Te Kauwhata.
Margaret Matheson and The Country Connection Singers will hold a Winter Variety Concert, All About Love, on Sunday at Aparangi Village’s Simmons Hall.
Starting at 2pm, it will feature great mix of old and new with a repeat of some of the popular Beatles and ABBA numbers, Matheson said
‘‘We’ve chosen a lot of songs... that are bright and bouncy for the winter.’’
This year the group is being joined by Maria Baigent from Miranda who boasts a contralto voice. And Pukekohe’s Stephanie Smith will once again feature at the concert on the piano.
Over past years people had travelled from Waiuku, Pukekohe, Huntly and Hamilton to enjoy the singing and fun provided by the group, Matheson said.
Entry is on a donation basis and will be put towards the Aparangi Building Fund for new units at the village.
Last year the group fundraised for 7-year old Austin Manning’s America trip for an operation to get him walking again as he suffered from cerebral palsy
