Muddy conditions see match called off

Four unanswered goals in the first 30 minutes of Ngaruawahia’s 2nd Division football home match against Claudelands Rovers counted for nothing on Saturday.

At the half-hour point the referee called off the match due to the deteriorating condition of Centennial Park, due to the incessant rain and overloaded drainage over the past week.

The northern goal mouth was beginning to take on the appearance of a bog and a section near the half-way line also became treacherous.

Considering the safety of the players the referee correctly called off the match, much to the chagrin of a number of local supporters.

Many of those complaining did it from the shelter of the clubrooms with a glass of alcohol in their warm hands.

The nullified goals were netted by Mark Christensen with a bicycle kick, Sam French, Hughwyn Habib and Salah Bahiss.

The match will be replayed on September 10.
