North Waikato News - - YOUR PAPER, YOUR PLACE -

More than 20,000 people have viewed John’s page 10 story on Mercer’s Muddy Waters rising from the ashes when we posted it on Facebook, proving that this is a great feel-good story about fighting back and getting things done.

As John reports, the popular Muddy Waters Irish bar and Restaurant was destroyed by fire two years ago.

It was devastating for owners James and Liane Oliver - not only did they lose their livelihood - but they also lost their home.

Many in this situation would have given up, the road ahead seemingly too tough to tread.

But this determined North Waikato couple are fighters, and on Friday, re-opened the doors to a completely rebuilt Muddy Waters.

It was a great day for the Olivers - and their loyal band of supporters.

Good on you, we say, and we’ll be stopping in for a Guiness next time we’re heading north.
