Matariki win­ners

Win­ners of the Waikato Dis­trict Li­braries Matariki com­pe­ti­tion were recog­nised with a prize­giv­ing with 12 re­cip­i­ents from the North Waikato.

The com­pe­ti­tion en­cour­aged peo­ple to cel­e­brate the Maori New Year through a short story, poem or de­sign­ing a book cover. The age cat­e­gories were 5-9, 10-15 and 16 years and over.

Cus­tomer de­liv­ery man­ager An­gela Par­quist said Matariki cel­e­bra­tions have been gath­er­ing mo­men­tum.

Judges were artist Paul Bradley, Tuakau au­thor Janet Pates and Raglan res­i­dent Na­dine Rogers.

16 years and over win­ner: Eden Wawatai, Ngaru­awahia, run­ner up: Des Maskell, Orini. 10-15 years win­ner: Toni Comins, Huntly, run­ner up: Oshyn John­son, Huntly. 5-9 years run­ner up: Dillin­jah Strick­land, Huntly. 16 years and over win­ner: Wir­i­hana Eriepa, Ngaru­awahia, run­ner up: Lau­ren Hughes, Te Kauwhata; 10-15 years win­ner: Emma Woods, Huntly, run­ner up: Brooke Shead, Huntly. 5-9 years run­ner up: Alexis Muru, Huntly. 16 years and over win­ner: Ch­eryl Wil­liams, Huntly. 5-9 years win­ner: Isaac Muru King, Huntly.
