Introducing Caitlin Moorby

You may notice a change in the way your community news is written – a new reporter has taken on the North Waikato patch.

My name is Caitlin Moorby and I can’t wait to discover what the communities of North Waikato have to offer.

I grew up on a dairy farm in Te Awamutu, which is where I have lived my whole life, other than the three years I spent in Auckland studying journalism.

I come from a family of five and have an older and a younger brother. My family and my friends are the most important things in my life.

Coming from a rural, small town background I appreciate the little stories and understand what it’s like to be a part of a community.

But, I also find great satisfaction in delivering hard-news stories, so I’ll be keeping an ear to the ground.

In my spare time I like to cook, go to the movies or get coffee. My favourite time of the year is Summer and my favourite place to be is at home on the farm. I can milk cows and I’m part Ma¯ori.

I have worked for the Waikato Times for almost two years and will continue to do so, as I embark on the North Waikato.

I look forward to meeting the faces of the North Waikato!
