FROM THE EDITOR

Northern News - - YOUR LOCAL NEWS -

I saw a glorious sight while out walking the dog the other day. Tiny pink blossoms on an old peach tree - a sure sign spring is right round the corner. In fact, it’s less than ten days away.

The change in seasons can’t come soon enough for me this year. It seems like an awfully long winter, made more tedious because of a nasty flu bug.

It was the first time I’ve been sick in years. I’ve spoken to loads of people, and heard of plenty more, who have been struck down by the virus.

Flu rates are three times higher than they were this time last year, with more than 180 Kiwis needing hospital treatment per week.

This ’super flu’ has me wondering whether a flu jab, something I’ve never considered before, might be in order next winter.

Watch out for symptoms including headaches, fever or chills, body aches and fatigue.

Yes, spring is highly anticipated, and I’m sure we’re all looking forward to plenty of sunshine in the coming weeks.
