NEST tops business awards

Focus and commitment were two key factors leading to the Northland Emergency Services Trust being named the supreme winner of the 2017 Westpac Northland Business of the Year Award.

The Westpac Northland Business Excellence Awards took place at Forum North on October 27. Businesses from throughout Northland submitted 42 unique entries across five business categories, seven ancillary categories from which the overall supreme winner was chosen.

NEST was also the winner of the Top Energy Best Not-ForProfit Organisation Award, the GBC Winstone Excellence in Business Medium Business Award and was the joint winner of the ACC Workplace Safety Award. The judges said there was evidence of strong governance and applauded the fact stakeholders were aware and contributed to the organisation’s common goals.

Judges made special mention of NEST chairman Paul Ahlers and chief pilot Peter Turnbull for their efforts. Tony Collins from the NZ Chamber of Commerce Northland says it was great to celebrate not only the winners, but all entrants for the passion they show to their business aspirations and their pursuit of excellence. He says the standard continues to get better every year and no matter what the size of the enterprise, they were all committed to making their business a success.

External audits found NEST’s ongoing pilot training was above industry standards both nationally and internationally.
