The North Canterbury kapa haka celebration, Ka¯ Matakura o Ruataniwha, is coming up at the end of the month, hosted by Tuahiwi School in the Ohoka Sports and Events Centre.

The event will run over two days, Wednesday September 27 and Thursday September 28, and will see 22 local schools take part, including the new Haeata Community College.

Two daytime sessions will be held both days, starting at 10.30am, as well as one evening session on Thursday which starts at 5pm.

There will be door sales for the daytime performances, however the evening session will be by ticket sales only, with tickets available from participating schools for $5 each.

Organiser Sue McKay said the event had been going for more than 10 years, and had grown over that time with more and more schools coming on board as participants. This year would see the largest number of participating schools, she said.

For more information, call Sue McKay at the Tuahiwi School office on 03 313 8521.
